Willie was rescued from a kill shelter in Swainsboro, Ga., by our partners Home for Good (HFG) Dog Rescue. He was scheduled to be euthanized due to his severe heartworm condition.
A retriever mix, Willie is likely about seven years old. It appears that he has spent most of his life chained up outside. Many of his teeth are missing and he suffered from severe periodontitis, probably due to poor nutrition.
Tess McIntyre Foundation is sponsoring Willie and will be providing funding to pay for his heartworm treatment, neutering, dental work and lab test of masses that were removed while he was being neutered. They were found to be benign.
Willie is recovering at HFG’s facility in Aiken, Ga.
