Violet came to the U.S. from Turkey along with a group of 17 other dogs rescued from a shelter there. Violet, who is likely four or five years old, came to our partners Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies (GRRR). They have a relationship with Yasemi Baban who managed the rescue in Turkey.
At the time of her rescue Violet had been kept in a tiny cage at an overcrowded shelter. She is totally blind and had a urinary tract infection. She was treated for the infection and was spayed before coming to the U.S. Upon being examined after her arrival in Colorado, she was found to have two tumors, one of which showed a rare form of cancer.
The Tess McIntyre Foundation is making a donation to pay for Violet’s surgery at the Homeward Bound Animal Hospital in Arvada, Colo. She will also be needing several rounds of chemotherapy.
Violet is currently at Phoebe’s Place, GRRR’s facility in Arvada, where she has lots of open space to run and play. The staff there says she is confident and independent and that she gets around well to the point that you wouldn’t notice she is blind.
We look forward to seeing Violet get a second chance in life and are happy to have been able to play a small part in making that happen.
